Hello, Im Jess. My work as a dancer includes intimate, independent projects, cross disciplinary creative collaborations, commercial alignments and celebrated performances with Australia’s leading dance companies. I move fluidly between classical purity and experimental contemporary embodiment.

I was born in Perth and completed my formal training at the Australian Ballet School. During my graduate year I was awarded the prestigious Australian Ballet Society scholarship for technical and artistic excellence.

My career began as a company artist with The Australian Ballet and later, I joined Sydney Dance Company becoming one of select few Australian artists to dance with both leading national ensembles. Early in my journey I recognised the benefits of cross cultural influence in deepening my expressive scope and personal style. I desired broader experiences outside of pure classicism and was fortunate to be awarded an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant to undertake artistic development at Netherlands Dance Theatre in Europe and Nrityagram Dance Company in India. At Nrityagram I absorbed the nuances and beauty of classical Odissi dance and, in return, offered classes and coaching to the dancers of the company and local children in classical ballet.

My career has included performances throughout Australia and abroad. I have graced the stages of Europe, the UK, the USA, China, Japan, South America and New Zealand. My performance repertoire encompasses works by master choreographers including George Balanchine, Rudolph Nureyev, Krzysztof Pastor, Kenneth McMillan, Stanton Welsh, Rafael Bonachela, Graeme Murphy, Stephanie Lake, Alexander Ekman, Gideon Obarzanek, Lee Serle, Gabrielle Nankivell, Alice Topp, Jacopo Godani, Timothy Harbour and Lucas Jervies.

In 2015 I stepped away from dance to have a family. During the following years I birthed two precious children, had little sleep and obtained diplomas in Ayurvedic medicine and Ashtanga yoga.

In 2023 my heart knew it was time to come home to movement and I returned to the stage as a guest artist for The Australian Ballet as part of their 60th birthday celebration seasons of ‘Identity’. In the same year I collaborated with Naarm based choreographer, Yuiko Masukawa in creation and performance of her work ‘Yugen’ for Frame festival in Melbourne. In early 2024 I aligned with a special group of independent dancers and helped found Naarm based, M Collective Dance. Since, we have created and performed several unique and intimate seasons of new work for Melbourne audiences to critical acclaim.

Although dancing is my first language and my deepest love I am also a published writer and guide dance, yoga and somatic healing classes and events regularly. I offer therapeutic and elemental wellness support for artists seeking wholistic tools within creative and performance environments. The unique human being at the heart of the dancer and the resilience and health of that heart from which fulfilling expressive freedom flows is of great importance to me.

These gifts of written expression, embodied performance and elemental wellness inform the totality of my generosity as an artist.

Above all, I value interpersonal reverence and sensitivity in embodiment. Through my artistic practice I bring honesty, presence and delicacy to expressive opportunities. Courageous vulnerability is what I champion fiercely in people and in creation and performance.
